Class Overview/Objectives:

Geometry is the second course in a sequence of three required high school courses designed to ensure career and college readiness. The course represents a discrete study of geometry with correlated statistics applications.

** Students enrolled in year-long Algebra I & Algebra I Support, year-long Geometry & Geometry support, or year-long Algebra II & Algebra II Support will attempt to earn a half-credit in both the content course and the support course at the conclusion of the first semester. Students will then attempt to earn another half-credit in each section (content and support) in the second semester. The goal is to earn a full math credit (Algebra I, Geometry, or Algebra II) as well as a full academic elective credit (Algebra I Support, Geometry Support, or Algebra II Support). Please note, Algebra I Support, Geometry Support, and Algebra II Support classes are not required for graduation, but they do count towards a student's HOPE scholarship GPA.

Student Expectations:

Successfully complete all course requirements, including class work, homework, quizzes, exams, projects, etc.

Supplies needed EVERYDAY*:

  1. Sharpened pencils

  2. Notebook paper

  3. 2” Binder with pockets for handouts.

Class Rules – All students must:

  • Have their supplies and be in their seat ready to work at the start of class.

  • Bring notebook paper, notebook, and have a writing utensil (lead pencil) every day for class.

  • Keep all limbs to one self and talk when called upon with positive words.

  • Follow ALL school rules

  • Follow ALL class procedures and rules

  • Cell phones are to be put away unless I allow you to use them for classwork.

Classroom Routine:

  1. Problem of the day:  There will be a warm up problem on the board each day. This should be completed as soon as you enter the classroom.

  2. Review: Be prepared to share response or listen to clarify questions

  3. Teacher Talk: Be ready to receive a new lesson or review previous lesson

  4. Guided Practice: Participate actively during class lecture/lesson

  5. Independent/Group Practice: Work diligently or go to assigned group

  6. Assessment: Verbal group or individual/Exit Card/Quiz

Class Discipline Procedure:

If a student fails to follow any school or class rules, or has difficulty following class expectations or procedures within the class period, the following disciplinary procedure will be followed:

Step 1:           Verbal Reminder

Step 2:           Written Documentation & Conference with student

Step 3:           Parent Notification (via written notice, phone call, voice message, or conference)

Step 4:           Detention

Step 5:           Referral to Office

Grading Procedures

Summative Assessments (Tests, Quizzes) comprise 60 percent of your grade for the 9 weeks.

Formative Assessments (Homework, Exit and Entrance Cards, Classwork) comprise 40 percent of your grade for the 9 weeks.

Semester grades will be calculated as 40 percent for the first 9 weeks, 40 percent for the second 9 weeks, and 20 percent for the Final Exam.

  1. Attendance is part of every class work grade (assignments, quizzes, tests, etc).  If a student is tardy, their grade for the day’s assignment(s) will be affected.

  2. Work must be turned in on the due date in order to be eligible to receive full credit.

  3. No make-up work for incomplete or low grades will be offered (This does not include excused absences, which will have a separate due date, depending on the student’s return to class)

  4. Make-up work for excused absences will be issued upon the student’s return to class.

  5. Late work will be accepted for partial credit (no higher than 70%) up to ONE WEEK after due date and before graded assignment is returned.

  6. All other late work will be eligible for a grade no higher than 60%.  GET YOUR WORK TURNED IN ON TIME.

**School Policy for Final Exam Exemption states that any class that has an EOC/Milestone cannot offer exemption.

I am looking forward to a successful and enjoyable year.  This will rely on each person doing their part to contribute to a positive learning environment and experience.  I expect all of my students to always conduct themselves in a manner that best represents their positive qualities and contributes to a successful, safe, positive, and enjoyable learning environment.  Prepare to work hard as you expand your knowledge further in mathematics.
